EULYNX - European Standards for Digital Command and Control Systems

Several European rail infrastructure operators have joined together to shape the future of digital interlocking and command and control technology. Within the framework of EULYNX, they are developing common standards for digital interlocking technology. The RCA (Reference CCS Architecture) project is based on this and defines a universal system architecture that extends to the vehicle side.

INCYDE is responsible for expert support of the security cluster, which consists of members of the participating companies. Furthermore, INCYDE represents ÖBB Infra in this group In this context, both organizational and technical interoperability-relevant requirements are being designed that will shape the security of the railroad world in the future. These are published in the form of the EULYNX Security Concept and multiple specification documents. Furthermore, a joined security guideline of the projects EULYNX, RCA, OCORA and EUG was created.

Customer feedback:

Mirko Blazic (EULYNX Technical lead): “The Security experts brought in deep rail and security knowledge and supported the whole Security team in providing a security specification on a well-recognized level of detail and quality.”

Challenges:

Beyond the project coordination of 13 European infrastructure managers within the security cluster, the following challenges exist:

  • Coordinating joined projects of 13 European infrastructure managers
  • Shape Future Digital Interlocking as well as Command & Control Technology
based on RaSTA and SCI, SDI, SMI
  • Definition of Security Requirements for EULYNX and RCA

Results:

The results of the Security Cluster's work led to the following documents, which were last published with Baseline 4 Release 1:

  • Eu.Doc.15 Security Specification
  • Eu.Doc.114 Security Specification
  • Eu.Doc.115 Security Parameter Specification
  • Eu.Doc.116 Security Threat and Risk Analysis
  • Eu.Doc.117 Interface definition and specification SSI
  • Eu.Doc.121 Security services specification

Highlights:

The definition of uniform security standards on a European level requires constant coordination and agreement with all parties involved, as well as detailed technical knowledge regarding security. The following aspects were addressed within EULYNX:

  • Leading Security Cluster & Definition of a Security Concept
  • Definition of security requirements for the EULYNX systems
  • Detailed Risk Assessment in the EULYNX scope according to TS 50701, IEC 62443
  • Definition of Organisational & Technical Measures
  • Creating Realization Concept for EULYNX Security Parameter Specification (Interlocking, Services, Network)
